From Video Game to Festival Stage: FINAL FANTASY XIV Band THE PRIMALS to Perform at Download Festival 2026

Germany, Hamburg, March 12, 2026 | On June 12, 2026, THE PRIMALS, the official band of FINAL FANTASY XIV, will make their debut at the legendary Download Festival at Donington Park in the UK, one of the world’s biggest rock and metal events. It will be the band’s first standalone live performance outside Japan and beyond the FINAL FANTASY XIV Fan Festivals. In front of an international festival audience, THE PRIMALS will step onto the global rock and metal stage for the very first time.

From Soundtrack to Internationally Acclaimed Live Band

THE PRIMALS were founded in 2014 by Masayoshi Soken, the award-winning composer and sound director of FINAL FANTASY XIV. The band reinterprets key tracks from the game in powerful rock and metal arrangements and has built an international fanbase through its live performances. Concerts at renowned Japanese arenas such as the Nippon Budokan and Yokohama Arena were sold out in a very short time, highlighting the growing significance of video game music as an artistic form in its own right. Beyond Japan, the band has also performed on international stages, though so far always as part of major FINAL FANTASY XIV Fan Festivals in North America, Europe, and Asia.

For more than two decades, Download Festival has been regarded as one of the world’s most important stages for rock and metal acts, shaping generations of artists along the way. With THE PRIMALS, the festival is expanding its musical spectrum to include an act whose origins lie in the world of one of the world’s most successful online role-playing games: FINAL FANTASY XIV, which, with more than 30 million registered players, ranks among today’s largest digital gaming communities.
